The Prefontaine classic diamond league

With countless Olympic medalists the Prefontaine diamond league looks set to break records. It could potentially be the greatest non championship track and field event in history.

The new Hayward field

The preclassic diamond league will be the first none domestic competition at the new Hayward field. If it follows the success of the NCAA’s and USA olympic qualifiers, it’ll promise to be the best diamond league of the year. With some events having Olympic final standard competition.

The Bowerman Mile Prefontaine classic Diamond league

With the newly crowned Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen in this race, as well as Timothy Cheruiyot, I honestly believe the World record will be broken. Which currently stands at 3:43.13. Matthew Centrowitz is also entered, it’ll be interesting to see if he can challenge the American record in a more competitive race. Other athletes include; Jye Edwards, Jake Heyward, Oliver Hoare, Filip Ingebrigtsen and Ronald Musagala. There’s every possibility that all athletes run under 3:50. New athletes have been added whilst writing this; Abel Kipsang, Mo Ahmed, Samuel Tefera, Matthew Ramsden and Stewy Mcsweyn.

The only potential road block to fast times and this applies to all the distance events. The wind is expected to be fair from perfect conditions.

There is also an international mile featuring athletes who don’t meet the standard of the Bowerman Mile. This includes; Bowerman track club athlete Joshua Thompson, fan favourite Craig Engels, British athlete Archie Davis, Vince Ciattei and many more people who can challenge the low 3:50 mark.

Women’s 800m

This might as well be the Olympic final. With all three medalists Athing Mu, Keely Hodgkinson and Raevyn Rogers in the field. If ran right I’m expecting to see Athing Mu break 1:55 at the very least. The slowest PB in the field is 1:58.03. Other athletes including Natoya Goule, Kate Grace, Jemma Reekie and Ajee Wilson are on the startlist.

Women’s 1500m

If this featured Sian Hassan, then again we would be seeing an Olympic final calibre of race. With Faith Kipyegon expected to attack the world record. Silver medalist Laura Muir also features, as well as Jessican Hull, Debues-Stafford and Cory Ann Mcgee. All runners can achieve a sub 4 time in this race.

Men’s 2 mile

Olympic champions Joshua Cheptegei and Selemon Berega both feature. Fellow Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo (our pre race favourite) also makes the line up. American’s Paul Chelimo, Woody Kincaid, Joe Klecker and Grant Fisher are all competing. A long with British athlete Marc Scott, and Luis Grijalva.

If conditions are good i’m expecting a sub 8 minute clocking.

Men’s 800m

Another field that’s arguably better than the Olympic final. Marco Arop, Oliver Dustin, Elliot Giles, Isaiah Harris, Bryce Hoppel, Isaiah Jewett, Emmuanuel Korir (Olympic champion), Clayton Murphy and Ferguson Rotich. I’m hoping for a fast race with the winner running below 1:43! The majority of athletes in this race have a personal best of 1:43 or under.

Women’s 5000m

Sifan Hassan is going for the World record. That’s all we have to say.

Men’s 100m

Rise of the 400m runners? Michael Norman and Fred Kerley both feature with Trayvon Bromell, Andrea De Grasse Akani Simbini, Ronnie Bakerm Justin Gatlin, Cravon Gillespie and Isiah Young making up the field. Not a single person in this field has a personal best slower than 9.93…

Men’s 200m

Kenny Bednarek, Aaron Brown, Kyree King, Josephus Lyles, Noah Lyles and Vernon Norwood feature. But I honestly believe the favourite may actually be 400m Hurdler Rai Benjamin. It’d be nice seeing Rai get a win for performing exceptionally well, because he always seems to be an edge behind Michael Norman and Karsten Warholm when they race.

Women’s 100m

All three Olympic 100m medalist from Tokyo are in this race. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thomoson-Herah. Although most eyes will be on Sha’carri Richardson as she returns from her questionable doping violation. People will be eager to see a “what if” scenario play out and how Sha’carri would’ve competed against the Jamaicans at the Olympics.

Women’s 200m

The Sha’carri Richardson show? Sha’carri will double up against Olympic medalist Gabrielle Thomas. As well as Dina Asher Smith who will hopefully be back to full fitness after injury set backs. Allyson Felix, Marie-Josee Ta Lou and Jenna Prandini are all featured.
