NCAA Conference XC championships

Over the weekend there will be 21 meets featuring Division 1 XC teams. That’s a lot of races to cover, so we are going to breakdown some of the key conferences to keep updated on.

From The USTFCCCA InfoZoneMeets & Results | USTFCCCA Scoreboard

Pac-12 Cross country championships

Usually one of it, if not the most exciting conference for distance running. With usually the highest percentage of top 30 National teams coming from this conference.

There’s 4 key teams across the men and women to keep a look out for. On the men’s side these are Colorado, Stanford, Oregon and Washington. With Colorado being highest ranked on the coaches poll, but I personally believe Stanford may come out on top.

In the women’s Colorado looks to be a favourite, but Utah are more than capable of causing an upset. Highly ranked Washington and Stanford also feature.

Big Ten Cross country championships

This year’s conference is being held at Penn State and features 3 top 10 ranked programmes across The Men and Women’s races. This includes a close match up between Minnesota and Michigan in the Women’s 6k and Wisconsin and Michigan on the Men’s side.

Acc Cross Country Championships

The Women’s 6k is completely stacked with 5 top 30 teams within this conference. These are Florida state, North Carolina, Syracuse and Notre Dame.

On the Men’s side a lot of eyes point to Notre Dame as they haven’t raced with a full squad since their amazing performance in last years NCAA championships. Notre Dame usually come out on top within this conference but Florida State can potential cause a challenge or at least make it a entertaining team contest for most of the race.

Big 12 Cross Country Championships

OSU have one of the best XC courses in the country, as well as one of the strongest teams for this season. They will host the big 12 Cross country championships. They’ll be strong competition between top 5 teams Iowa State and Oklahoma State on the men’s side, who tied last year in this meet. Iowa did win the team title at the Nuttycombe Invitational. Texas also can be in contention as the 14th ranked team.

In the Women’s race it seems Oklahoma state are favourites with Iowa State being the closest competition. One of these teams have won this conference each year since 2010.

Big Sky Cross Country Championships

NAU, are set to dominant in both races. That’s about it.

Although earlier this year NAU rested a lot of big runner’s and placed 2nd behind unranked Southern Utah.

Mountain West Cross Country Championships

There was been four separate winners in the last four years on the Men’s side, so this one looks to be providing some of the most entertainment. The main contest will be between Air force, Utah state, Colorado state and Boise state.

On the Women’s side there seems to be a little less competition with New Mexico being the number one ranked team in the country. They have won 13 conference titles in a row. However, the Colorado state team have been running strong, so they may cause some competition. Utah State and Boise state are also looking strong.

SEC Cross Country Championships

Arkansas look to be team favourites in the Men’s race, winning 25 out of 29 in their conference history. Alabama and Ole Miss both have extremely strong individuals, so look dangerous to cause an upset if all goes to plan for both teams.

WCC Cross Country Championships

BYU look to be the dominant force in both races. Portland being the only other top 30 ranked team in the Women’s race.

It’s seemingly closer in the Men’s race with Gonzaga and Portland having strong teams and are running well.
